Days 2 & 3: West Kilimanjaro
In the morning after breakfast, you will meet your guide for a briefing and then be driven through a patchwork of farmland skirting the flanks of Mount Kilimanjaro before reaching the beautiful highlands of the western edge of Mount Kilimanjaro, onto a private Maasai conservancy reserve where award-winning elephant conservation efforts take place. You spend two nights in the Ndarakwai camp where customers are the only tourists allowed on these exclusive, 60,000 acres. Day 4: West Kilimanjaro - Lake Manyara

Day 5: Lake Manyara and Great Rift Escarpment In the morning we take you to Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara National Park is famous for its dense population of elephants and baboons, tree-climbing lions resting in the acacias and native wildlife including impala, hippo, tree-climbing lions, zebras, giraffes, buffalos, wildebeest and warthogs. It is hard to spot the leopards but there are many in this lush green landscape with hot springs too.Manyara provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania's birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded, and even a first-time African visitor might reasonably expect to observe 100 of these in one day. Highlights include thousands of pink-hued flamingos on their perpetual migration, as well as other large water birds such as pelicans, cormorants and storks. In the late afternoon, you will be driven back to the Serena Safari Lodge for a hot shower and dinner. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner |
Days 6 & 7: Ngorongoro CraterÂ
Early in the morning after having breakfast, you will be driven to the Ngorongoro crater gate to sign the necessary permits and thereafter we drive down into the crater for full days game drive. You will spend the next two days of your tour in one of the most phenomenal places in Africa, the 2000-foot deep, 100 sq. mile Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro volcano at its nadir was probably about 15 000 feet high and would have resembled present day Mount Meru. Once the world's highest structure, an enormous volcano - possibly 25 miles wide at its base - collapsed inwards about 2-3 million years ago at a time when large fractures appeared creating the Eastern Rift wall.
Today, the crater is home to over 20 000 large mammals. Its rich grassland is an animal paradise. See some of the world's largest elephant, large groups of black-maned lions and big herds of plains animals like zebra and wildebeest. The crater is the last place in Africa where free-ranging black rhino are commonly seen.
We will introduce you to a local Maasai chief who will escort you on a breathtaking walk through the area's outstanding hills. Your two days and nights will be spent at the lavish Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Days 8 - 10: Serengeti Plains
In the morning after breakfast we leave the Ngorongoro on a spectacular drive that takes you first to the famous Olduvai Gorge, then overland into the Serengeti. For three days and two nights you'll explore the southern plains and western hills, where during the migration around 2 million wildebeest, zebra and a vast assortment of other plains animals, congregate to feast on the nutritious grasses.
There is no other as impressive or dramatic wildlife spectacle on earth. During these three nights of your great migration safari in Tanzania you'll be pampered at the Serengeti Serena Lodge. At times, the entire veldt will be yours alone. You will also be taken to sacred Maasai areas, where the drama and mystery of Maasai history and culture will be explained.
